I agree with Dr. Reilly that hospitals buying out physicians is going to lead to bad outcomes for patients. Working in the UHealth deans office, I worked on departmental yearly scorecards, which allocated bonuses. The major component, over 50%, of bonuses to department chairs were based off of financial metrics, which were directly linked to the number of Relative Value Units. The downward pressure on physicians turn them from stewards of patients interests to salesman earning commission. This will ruin both patient outcomes and physician integrity.
