I'm not entirely convinced one model is the answer to creating a proper compensation model for providers. Especially for private practice physicians who are still being paid by the fee-for-service model, I'm not sure a quality bonus would be appropriate with the common method of taking home your percentage of profit as dictated by the percentage of your revenue compared to overall revenue.
However, the biggest lesson from this article is the necessity of "engaged physician leadership to drive the care redesign." Physician backlash will occur if governments, insurance companies, or hospitals impose their beliefs. With proper education and keeping the patient as their focus, I believe physicians are capable of creating noticeable change in the system.
